What if weather protection could simply appear when it is needed?

Developed as a tethered, lighter-than-air roof concept for a major stadium in Munich, the flying membrane was designed to move above the playing field when changing weather conditions required protection.

By replacing conventional structural mass with buoyancy, the concept explored a radically lightweight way of covering very large spaces, without permanently closing them.

TAO together with partners (e.g. Prof. Dr. Rosemarie Wagner) developed the engineering calculations, built and tested flying prototypes to validate the behavior of the system.

For stadiums, arenas and large public spaces, the idea opens a new possibility: weather protection on demand — architecture that arrives only when it is needed.
