Expo Care

Keeping Extraordinary Installations Extraordinary

Opening night is only the beginning.

Operational Life

An extraordinary installation should not lose its magic once the exhibition has opened.

Complex artworks, inflatable structures, kinetic installations and lightweight architectural objects continue to interact with their environment every day.

Materials change. Pressure changes. Weather changes. Metal oxidises. Technical systems need attention.

Our Technical Exhibition Care keeps these installations performing, looking and behaving as they were intended, throughout their entire exhibition life.

So the artist can remain focused on the idea. The curator on the exhibition. And the visitor on the experience.

Your Vision. Our Responsibility.

The more extraordinary an installation becomes, the less conventional its maintenance can be.

A helium-supported artwork cannot simply be “checked”. A pneumatic structure must be understood. A membrane responds to temperature, pressure, wind and time. A kinetic installation may require adjustment rather than repair.

Our engineers understand the physical principles behind these structures and translate them into practical care routines, inspection procedures, technical interventions and project logistics concepts.

The benefit for our clients is simple: one technical partner who understands the installation and takes responsibility for keeping it working.

Preventive Care

Care Before Problems Become Problems

The best maintenance is the maintenance visitors never notice.

We develop preventive care concepts tailored to the individual installation. Regular inspections, documented operating parameters and clearly defined intervention procedures allow changes to be identified before they affect the artwork or exhibition.

Depending on the project, our services can include:

  • Technical inspections and condition monitoring
  • Membrane inspection and maintenance
  • Pneumatic system care
  • Pressure monitoring and adjustment
  • Helium and buoyancy management
  • Leak detection
  • Valve and connection checks
  • Anchoring and tether inspection
  • Mechanical and electrical system checks
  • Preventive maintenance schedules
  • Technical documentation and reporting

The objective is not simply to react faster. It is to reduce the need to react at all.

Helium & Pneumatic Care

Keeping Lightness in Balance

Helium-supported and pneumatic installations require a particularly specialised form of care.

Gas loss, temperature variations and atmospheric conditions can change pressure, geometry and buoyancy over time.

We monitor these interactions and develop procedures for controlled helium replenishment, pressure management, leak detection, inflation and deflation.

For the client, this means greater operational reliability, predictable maintenance and an installation that retains its intended appearance and behaviour throughout the exhibition.

Air may be invisible. Its management should never be left to chance.

Local Capability

Trained People on Site. Engineering Expertise Behind Them.

Not every technical task requires an engineer to travel to the exhibition.

Where appropriate, we train local exhibition teams to perform defined routine procedures safely and consistently.

We provide:

  • Project-specific technical training
  • Inspection routines
  • Operating instructions
  • Checklists and documentation
  • Escalation procedures
  • Remote engineering support

This creates an intelligent combination of local presence and specialist expertise. Routine care happens where the artwork is. Engineering support is available when it is needed.

For international and long-duration exhibitions, this can significantly reduce travel, response times and operating costs without compromising technical quality.

When Something Changes

Engineering Beyond Maintenance

Not every problem can be anticipated. Materials behave differently. Weather changes. An installation ages. An artwork may respond to months of operation in ways that were impossible to reproduce during initial testing.

This is where Technical Exhibition Care becomes engineering.

Our team can analyse unexpected behaviour, identify its technical cause and develop an appropriate intervention, from adjustment and repair to modification of operating procedures or individual components.

We do not simply ask: “What needs to be repaired?” We ask: “Why did it happen and how do we keep it from happening again?”

Exhibition Lifecycle

From Opening Day to Deinstallation

Technical Exhibition Care can begin long before the exhibition opens.

Ideally, we become involved during planning and installation so that maintenance requirements, access points, spare parts and operating procedures are considered from the beginning.

Support can then continue throughout the complete exhibition lifecycle:

  • Installation
  • Commissioning
  • Training
  • Monitoring
  • Maintenance
  • Intervention
  • Deinstallation

One continuous technical understanding. One documented history of the installation. One partner throughout its operational life.

Collaboration

Who We Support

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Our Technical Exhibition Care is designed for projects where conventional exhibition maintenance is no longer enough.

We work with:

  • Artists
  • Architects
  • Museums and galleries
  • Foundations
  • Curators
  • Exhibition designers
  • Cultural institutions
  • Event and creative agencies
  • Owners of technically complex installations

Particularly where art meets membrane technology, pneumatics, movement, buoyancy or lightweight engineering.

Beyond Technical Exhibition Care

Because technically ambitious art deserves more than maintenance.

We come from aerospace engineering.

For decades, the TAO Group has developed lighter-than-air systems, membrane structures, inflatable technologies and complex lightweight systems in which pressure, material behaviour and environmental conditions must remain in carefully controlled balance.

We bring this understanding into the exhibition world.

Because technically ambitious art deserves more than maintenance. It deserves to be understood.

The value of an extraordinary installation is not only in creating the impossible, but in keeping the impossible possible.
